Fields</a></b>, one of America's leading experts on pain, is a neurologist and professor of neurology at the University of California, San Francisco.  In addition to serving on the faculty of USCF School of Medicine, he <a href=\"http://www.galloresearch.org/howard-fields.htm\">is the director</a> of human clinical research for the Gallo Center.  His works include the 1987 text <i>Pain: Mechanisms and Management</i>; he served as editor of the 2nd edition of IASP <a href=\"http://www.iasp-pain.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=IASP_Press_Books2&amp;Template=/CM/HTMLDisplay.cfm&amp;ContentID=10731\">core curriculum</a> on pain, where his \"very successful\" format was retained in the current (2005) edition.
