An adult educator and social activist, he is a prolific author on educational reform. His numerous books include <i>Tidal Waves of School Reform</i> and <i>Effective Educational Partnerships</i>.  Mitchell studied at <a href=\"http://shimer.edu\">Shimer College</a> and subsequently at the University of Chicago, where he obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees.
