Photographe. - Graveur et illustrateur. - Prix Kodak (1947). - Prix Niepce (1956). - Grand Prix National de la Photographie (1983). - Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (1984).

Note biographique :
1925-1929 : École Estienne à Paris (diplôme de graveur-lithographe).
1930 : commence la photographie.
1931-1933 : assistant d'André Vigneau.
1934-1939 : photographe industriel aux usines Renault à Boulogne.
1939 : rencontre Charles Rado (Rapho).
1939-.... : photographe-illustrateur indépendant, il travaille pour les revues "Excelsior", "Point de Vue", "Life", "Fortune", "Noir et Blanc", "Paris-Match", "Vogue", etc.
1945 : membre de l'agence Alliance Photo (Paris).
1946 : membre de l'agence Rapho (Paris) ; membre du Groupe des XV ; rencontre avec Blaise Cendrars
