Gigi Sanna

Born in Abbasanta in 1939. He taught (1967-1998) Latin and Greek Language and Literature at the Liceo Statale De Castro' of Oristano. He deals with Epigraphy, History and Studies concerning the Language and Literature of Sardinia. He currently works at the Institute of Religious Sciences of the Pontifical Faculty of Oristano where he teaches History of the Ancient Church and History of the Church in Sardinia.

His most recent books concern research on preaching in Sardinia (Pulpito, Politica e Letteratura- Predica e predicatori in lingua sarda, Oristano S’Alvure ed. 2002), on Sardinian Nuragic epigraphy and writing (La stele di Nora, PTM editrice ed. 2009; Sardòa Grammata, Oristano S'Alvure ed. 2004) and on the epigraphy and Greek documents of the oracle of Pito (segni del Lossia Cacciatore, Oristano S’Alvure ed. 2006) found in Glozel (Vichy, France) back in 1924.

Gigj Sanna has held numerous Conferences and Reports in Italy and abroad on both the Nuragic epigraphic documentation and the Glozel documents:

  • Cagliari (Istituto del Banco di Sardegna: International Conv.)
  • Sassari (International Conv. of the Faculty of Medicine)
  • Paris (La Sorbonne)
  • Aix en Provence (Faculty of Literature), to name but a few.

He was for three terms a Municipal Councillor (1981 -1995) and Deputy Mayor (1989 -1990) of the Municipality of Oristano. For the years 1987 -90, he was appointed by the Region of Sardinia as a board member of Sfirs.

Since 2010, he has been the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine 'Monti Prama/Quaderni Oristanesi', a periodical on History, Literature and Art founded by Oristanese priest Peppino Murtas in 1982.
