The Art of Study

The Sorbonne Method

  • 3 Want to read

It's a snall book with a lot of useful study tips. The essence of the system is to put ideas into groups that have an "organic unity". Then it's a matter of condensing the ideas and making them memorable. Memory aids include: creating mental images to illustrate important concepts; rewriting material in your own words; asking yourself questions about the material; writing your own thoughts about the subject. The book was written in the days when pen and paper were the default study tools, but it's easy to use The Sorbonne Method on a computer. The author, Edmond Bordeaux Szekely had a wide range of interests, so as well as showing readers how to study, he outlines seven departments of things worth studying, ranging from disease prevention to spirituality.
